2019 Regional Meet and AGM with Northumbrian D.A’s 50th Birthday

Despite the constant and (sometimes torrential ) rain on the Thursday and Friday the teams that were siting members and the booking in teams worked very hard (well done to all who helped), the field held up OK and only one gate cut up a bit, but was still usable. There were 110 units on site by the end of Friday.

After the Marquee arrived and was erected in the rain, the decoration team quickly got organized and trimmed the interior with pennons and bunting and 50th Birthday decorations which set us up to spend Thursday evening catching with old friends from across the region and of cause the usual game of bingo.

Friday evening saw the first of the weekend entertainment a band called the “Persuaders” playing music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

We started Saturday bacon buns cooked by the CCY and enjoyed by members. Then came the AGM which was attended by Mr Mel Hill on behalf of Management Committee and 89 members from the region. This was them followed by 2 hours of fun and laughter provided by the children’s entertainer, we followed this with a visit from a local Ukulele Band where our members who played the ukulele were invited to join. This gave members time to prepare for the “Cocktail” competition, a friendly competition to prepare, mix and serve their interpretation of “Camping”. After a short rest the evening entertainment started off with Northumbrian D.A cutting the birthday cake and serving drinks to toast the next 50 years. Then followed the “Hawaiian”  themed fancy dress, I’ve never seen so many grass skirts in all category groups with toddlers to granddads taking part, what a sight, but members enjoyed themselves. The musical group “Guilty” then took over to finish the evening off.

The first event on Sunday was a table top sale where members sold unwanted camping gear then followed by the closing ceremony and raffle, Mel Hill was invited to close the meet. But traditional games of Quoits and Boules continued to reach their finals. Some members packed their caravans and left while the retired members relaxed in the sunshine waiting for the evening entertainment to start, again bingo was played followed by the “Bryden Trio”
